Learning to take responsibility for our actions is the first step to achievement. If we do not learn to take responsibility for our actions, who are we going to shift the blame to for our carelessness, our negligence and uninformed choices that we make in life?
One thing for sure is that our parents have tried to improve the situation from where we come from; the degrees of their effort will definitely differ. It does not mean that if your parent cannot afford to buy a car for your family then they are not trying to change the situation at home but the little that they do as little as putting food on the table and providing for your needs means a lot.
We first need to consider the different backgrounds we come from and stop comparing ourselves to our friends, neighbours and colleagues. If you can measure how much your family has contributed to your being today, you can conclude that you are better off than the person who comes from a well off family. One singer says “count your blessings and name them one-by-one.”
To be able to take responsibilities of our actions, we first need to have in our minds that we are here to take opportunities for the betterment of our lives. Once we start to conceive the spirit of giving back to our families then we will be encouraged to “toil to the stars”.
We are the ones who have to make a difference in our lives and in our families and to the people around us, no one but YOU! The only thing that we need to change is the mind-set of dependability and laziness as young people. Once you reach the ages of 18 years we should learn how we can be independent and learn to improve ourselves.
In most cases, those who have learnt the hard way; those who grew up struggling to make ends meet, are the ones who succeed in life. These people are able to come up with the means to make ends meet, and they work for everything that they possess because they understand that hard work pays.
It feels great to go around telling people about the story of your life when all the shame and struggle has vanished and all people can see is a successful man/ woman. If there are successful people even in our small country, then why can’t you be one of them? They say the sky is the limit and this is true. If you want to be successful, you won’t do things like the ordinary man; you will always go an extra mile and strive for Excellency in everything you do.
To excel you have to first identify which areas you are capable in and which Areas you are talented in. Then the best thing to do is capitalise on your capabilities and this is where you will shine more than in any other area. Once you focus on where you are capable at then you have to stay positive even if there are not enough resource, but remember you need to grab all the opportunities and they will add up in you achieving your dreams. “The good life you will own.”
If only we could know how to recognize and identify the right opportunities at the right time. Many young people in the bundus are not exposed to proper career guidance which would enable them to make the right choices.
ReplyDeleteInstitutions of higher learning like the University of Swaziland should work on such issues of career guidance by visiting these schools and sharing knowledge of career choices with high school pupils to prevent such situations so they make the right choices.
